When you’re on holiday it’s natural to want to take all the necessary precautions against getting sick before or during your trip.
This might involve steering clear of runny-nosed colleagues or only drinking bottled water once you land. Nothing is too much if it means having a well-rested break where you’re full of health.
But, a fairly innocent looking part of your hotel room could be posing a serious threat to your health.
While using the hotel hairdryer can save you a little bit of luggage space, if you’re a real stickler for cleanliness, it might be time to reconsider…
It’s been found that the hair-dryer in your hotel is often dirtier than the sink and toilet. Mainly because it often receives far less attention when it comes to being cleaned.
News outlet ABC conducted the investigation in hotels ranging from budget to luxury across Los Angeles in the USA. Microbiologist Chuck Gerba assisted in the investigation. He swabbed items in nine different hotels to find out which ones were the least clean.
What do you think?

Speaking about his results Gerba said: “There must be some things you can do with a hair dryer that I am not aware of, because some of them were pretty germy. The biggest concern in a hotel room is picking up cold, flu virus or viruses that cause diarrhoea.”
He added: “It doesn’t take very many to make you ill.”
It wasn’t just the hairdryers which caused Gerba some concern. He found that six of the nine bathroom sinks had levels of germs he considered excessive.
There couldn’t be a better time to invest in travel hairdryer!
