This $6.4 Million Wedding Is the Most Extravagant One We've Seen This Year

A billionaire’s son and his model girlfriend tied the knot at Blenheim Palace this weekend and with an estimated cost of £5million ($6.4 million), it was a far cry from the average summer wedding.

Folarin Alakija is the son of Nigerian oil tycoon Folorunsho Alakija, who has been ranked as the 18th richest person in Africa by Forbes. He’s said to have met Iranian-born Nazanin Jafarian Ghaissarifar while studying in London and it’s safe to say that this bride and groom’s big day was every bit the fairytale.

It’s believed that hiring the Oxfordshire stately home, which is the main residence of the Duke of Marlborough, would have cost £150,000 ($190,965). And when it came to decorating the historic venue, no expense was spared.

Celebrity florist Jeff Leatham took charge of the flowers and transformed the palace into a “white wedding.” Leatham, the artistic director of the Four Seasons Hotel George V in Paris, reportedly arranged one million white blooms around the venue.

As for Nazanin’s dress, she chose a a strapless white gown adorned with lace during the day, but is said to have changed into a party dress in the evening.

Commenting on the cost of the occasion, Bridebook.co.uk’s founder, Hamish Shephard, told Harper’s Bazaar UK: “Venue hire would likely be up to £150,000 with the bespoke marquee with marble floor and production around £200,000 ($254,620) on top. The spectacular endless flowers by Jeff Leatham are likely to have cost at least £200,000. With food and drink, Robin Thicke (at £150,000) and all the other items for the big day, including the dress, on top, the wedding will have no doubt cost more than £1million and potentially several million more.”
