YOGA IS ONE STEP CLOSER TO THE OLYMPICS NOW
By the invitation of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), delegates from the International Yoga Federation participated in the GAISF congress held on July 20, 2018 in Lausanne, Switzerland.
Akif Manaf, the president of the International Yoga Federation taking action to engage in Olympics, has said: “We primarily took the first step in 2016 for yoga to appear as a sporting event in the Olympic Games. From that time, we have kept establishing essential contacts to make progress. Within this context, we participated in the GAISF Info-Day congress (Lausanne, Switzerland on July 20, 2018) and agreed upon the next steps with the GAISF authorities. Therefore, we can now announce to all Yoga sportsmen that thanks to the efforts of the International Yoga Federation, Yoga is now accepted as a sports branch internationally, and a new step has been taken for it to take place in the Olympics.”
The delegates of the International Yoga Federation tell that for a sports branch to take part in the Olympics, the international organization which represents that sport branch should first be a member of the Global Association of International Sports Federation (GAISF), and they have stated that for this reason, the International Yoga Federation has applied for full membership a while ago.
The delegates of the International Yoga Federation also state that as being the highest institution who represents the Yoga sport internationally, besides the process of organizing in 3 continents and 40 countries, in the last 3 years they have organized many international Yoga tournaments for the creation of the Yoga sport contest rules as well as to achieve the provision of rule integrity in all countries.
GAISF (Global Association of International Sports Federations)
GAISF, a private non-profit organization, is known as a well-known organization that represents both olympic and non-olympic world-famous individuals and sports teams.
Some particular objectives of this organization are to define the fundamental rules of sport branches and to globally conserve the integrity of these rules, to arrange big events such as international and world championships, to promote the number of sportsmen and audience, to work on social responsibility projects, and to fight against doping.
In every sport branch, only one international sport organization is accepted by the GAISF, which has two different kinds of memberships: full membership and partner membership. The sports federation that represents the sport to take part in the Olympics must be a full member.
