The designer-loving divas were invited to take part in the second episode of ITV’s How to Spend it Well at Christmas with Phillip Schofield this week, which also saw experts and members of the public testing festive buys from drones to voice-activated speakers, to see if high street handbags could match up to their pricier counterparts.
The Real Housewives of Cheshire cast an expert eye over the contenders…
They were asked to compare five quilted black cross-body bags ranging from £15 to £160 with the £715 Gucci Marmont matelassé mini bag. The discovery that their top choice – a Miss Selfridge bag since reduced to £14 – cost a mere £20 left the foursome visibly shocked.

“I like it better than the designer bag,” Tanya, who is married to Stoke City footballer Phil Bardsley, admitted, adding, “Don’t tell my husband!” Offerings from ASOS, Dune, Kurt Geiger and Ted Baker left the ladies less impressed. Rachel declared that the £99 Kurt Geiger option smelled “like plastic” despite being real leather.

However, the Housewives appreciated Miss Selfridge’s little black number for both its looks and its practicality. “It would fit enough in for a night out,” beautician and former lap dancer Leanne, who is married to Blackburn Rovers footballer Wes Brown, added.
Sadly, the bag has since sold out online, but it’s still available in some Miss Selfridge stores. And if you fancy toting a silver version to your Christmas party, you can still nab one for the bargain price of £10! Get clicking…
