After making a grand (and when I say grand, I mean grand) entrance at tonight’s Grammys red carpet, Lady Gaga helped kick off the award show as the second performer of the night.
Following Kendrick Lamar’s powerful and politically charged opening, Gaga took to the stage to perform two ballads off her last album: “Joanne” and “A Million Reasons.” The emotional performance, which was a tribute to her late Aunt Joanne (whom her entire album was dedicated to and named after), took place at a grand piano covered with giant, illuminated angel wings.

“This is for my father’s sister, Joanne. This is for love and compassion, even when you can’t understand,” Gaga announced before singing.
For the performance, Gaga wore a stunning pink tulle gown paired with matching pink jewel earrings—a stark change from the dramatic black Armani Privé gown she wore on the red carpet.

Towards the middle of her performance, the singer announced “time’s up!,” referencing Hollywood’s ongoing movement against sexual assault and harassment. She then transitioned from singing “Joanne” to “A Million Reasons.” Earlier tonight, she also wore a white rose to symbolize her support for the Time’s Up movement.
